Initial Ideas for my Main Task

One initial idea I had for my magazine was that the layout would be simple, with only one or two bold, large cover lines. The picture will be of a dancer in the process of a jump, making it stand out. I aim for this to be targeted to people aged 14-25, which will attract readers who enjoy 'the arts'. I want the colours to stand out by using black, white and possibly a pastel pink or blue. I have also chosen this as the feedback from my questionnaire showed me that those colours were the most popular so far. The music I will be using will consist of music used in shows and musicals as well as modern music which will be appealing to younger readers who may not be as interested in dance. I have used 'Dance Magazine' as a part of my initial ideas to give me inspiration. They use a simple and effective layout, making the picture and main cover lines to stand out boldy.

Questionnaire Data Analysis

As a group, we collected results from 30 people around the college.
We collected, 19 females and 11 males. As there were more females, this means the results may focus more on stereotypical female preferences.
We asked if people would read a college magazine, which 18, out of the 30 said yes, 8 said no and 3 said they don't know.
We also asked what content/topics would appeal to them? 15 said Gossip/Celebs, 5 said What's on, 3 said study resources, 5 said sports, 12 said Fashion, 6 said Technology Reviews, 13 said Film&TV reviews, 9 said Problem Pages, 13 said Music and 8 said Food. This shows a huge range in topics that people would read, but the highest was Gossip/Celebs and the lowest was Study Resources, giving us ideas about what should be included in the magazine and what shouldn't.
We also asked what colours should be included. The most popular colours from our results were purple, pink and blue. Also giving us a clear indication to what we may consider using.

27 out of the 30 people we asked would also like to see freebies and discounts within the magazine.
17 people said that they would like to see images of people/students on the front cover, where as only 3 said Technology, 3 said students work and 8 said nature.

50% of the people we asked said they would like to see the magazine published monthly, 5 said every 2 weeks, 4 said termly, and every half term. Only 1 said weekly.
The results were nearly half and half when we asked if they would like the magazine to be on paper or on the internet, with 16 saying paper and 14 saying internet.

We asked if they would also like to contribute to the magazine themselves, which was also closely mixed results. 14 people said yes and 16 people said no.
